Pointe-à-Callière Public Market in 2015

On August 22 and 23, 2015, Pointe-à-Callière's 18th century Public Market was back for its 22nd edition. For two days, the Place Royale and the surroundings of the museum will change their look to make visitors relive to the days of New France.

I volunteered for the Pointe-à-Callière museum for about 10 years. I stopped my participation with Covid-19. Usually, at the Public Market, with other people, I was a costume volunteer to hand out the costumes to the participants, and store their personal clothes in a cloakroom. In 2015, I was asked to photograph all the people wearing the museum's costumes. Over a hundred people. So I photographed the agricultural producers, artisans and animators after they put on their costumes. Each of them held a white sheet where the name of the character or the number corresponding to the costume was indicated. I included a photo at the end of the project where we see the person wearing the Duchess costume.

Then, I went outside to photograph them in the atmosphere of the market of 1750. It was pleasant because the majority of people smiled at me because they knew that I was taking the photos for the museum. Among them, the historian Jacques Lacoursière, author of several books. He liked to participate in this event by wearing the costume of the 18th century historian.

Also, people interested in the history of Quebec participated in the event with their own costume.

I present here my best photos. I made no color or contrast adjustments to my photos. I hope that you will like.

Good viewing!

The actor André Cyr. In 2015, he worked for the organization Les Cercles des Jeunes Naturalistes. He and three young girls participated to represent this organization.
Mr. Lacoursière liked to participate in this event by wearing the costume of the 18th century historian. It was an opportunity for him to talk about the history of Quebec with visitors and answer their questions. I sincerely believe that Jacques Lacoursière is the best historian that Quebec has had. Surely the friendliest. I'm happy to have met him at the public market in 2015. Unfortunately, Jacques Lacoursière passed away in 2021.  The photo was taken on August 22, 2015.
Catherine works at the Pointe-à-Callière Foundation. When I was volunteering, I worked several times with her, she is a very nice person.
